sprinkles, sprinkles, & more sprinkles

This past weekend I hosted a party in celebration of my 22nd birthday! The party was good, but the preparation was even better. I decided on a confetti-sprinkle theme and may have taken it a little too far, but it was worth every second because I really enjoyed  planning , decorating, and baking everything for it.

I baked confetti-cake cookies, mini cupcakes, and dipped oreos in white chocolate and coated them with sprinkles.

I even made some white chocolate 2s covered in sprinkles for a cake topper.

I bought some pink striped paper straws and then cut hearts out of some of white and gold glitter paper to glue on.

I had such a wonderful time planning and baking and a lovely time enjoying it with some of my closest friends. I hope this will inspire you to do something special for your next gathering, all it takes a little effort and an teeny tiny bit of creativity.

cupcakes & craft fairs

Today, I want to tell you about the wonderful weekend I had. On Saturday, I was fortunate enough to make it up to Wicker Park to check out the Renegade Craft Fair.

IMG_3097There were over 300 venders from all over the country! It was a crafter’s paradise. Luckily, I was able to snap a few photos of some of my favorite items I stumbled upon. Enjoy! And if you weren’t able to make it, you can live vicariously through these photos!

The first thing I saw when I walked into the fair were these amazing aztec-inspired necklaces.

I absolutely want this floral mannequin for my room.

These were very interesting. They are handmade guitars, but the bodies are in the shape of a square. They sounded very incredible too.

There was this amazing piano that people were playing. Even better, this kid was playing Daylight by Matt & Kim.

I think anything with maps is super cool, so naturally I was drawn to these mini-journals.

The same guy who made the book cover wallets also made bracelets out of vintage book spines.

There were also a lot of art prints. Typographical or otherwise.

And what better way to end my weekend than with a Maple Bacon flavored cupcake from Sprinkles? The best.

sweet as a cupcake

I had the urge yesterday to paint a cupcake. I had a leftover canvas from a previous cupcake painting project and figured why not?! I already have three hanging in my room right now, but you can never have too many cupcakes in my opinion…

Since I decided to paint another, I figured I could show everyone my process. : )

First thing you need is a canvas. I love using the skinny canvas boards versus the regular canvas for these particular projects. I got a package of 5 at Blick for maybe $10.

Now pick a color for your background. In my previous paintings I used a light pink. I decided I wanted a more 'masculine' cupcake today and went for a light blue.

I like to prep before I go straight in with the paints. So I sketch out my cupcakes in pencil first.

You just want to lightly sketch because you can't erase pencil on freshly painted canvas.

I like keeping a little consistency in my cupcakes, so I always make my cupcake insides a cream color.

Then I like to outline to cupcake, but not with black. I use the background color mixed with a little black as I think it helps tie the whole thing together. : )

After the initial outline, I go back to thicken some parts to add dimension.

Painting is something that anyone can do. When I’m stressed, I’ll take a break and paint for an hour. It soothes my nerves and helps me relax. I don’t consider myself a “painter” per say, but I like what I create and I enjoy creating it. I think that’s the most important part of creativity; doing it for yourself. If you enjoy it, who cares what other people think. Just go for it!
